How to keep it to 5 minutes

  • Keep the fruit frozen and ready: peel and slice bananas before you freeze them. Or make freezer packs for the whole week.
  • Add the liquid first, then yogurt or nut butter, then the frozen fruit. The blender catches faster and you don't need to stop and stir.
  • Rinse the blender jar right away, before the smoothie dries on it.

1. Green smoothie for beginners

  • 1 cup (about 30 g) baby spinach
  • 1 medium banana, sliced and frozen
  • ½ cup (about 80 g) frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 cup (240 ml) unsweetened almond milk

Blend the spinach with the almond milk first, then add the rest. The fruit hides the spinach taste. Full recipe and tips.

2. Mixed berry Greek yogurt smoothie

  • 1 cup (about 140 g) frozen mixed berries
  • ½ cup (about 115 g) plain Greek yogurt
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) milk
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional)

The quickest one here: about 3 minutes. Taste before you add the honey. Full recipe and tips.

3. Chocolate oat breakfast smoothie

  • 1 medium banana, sliced and frozen
  • ¼ cup (about 20 g) rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • ½ cup (about 115 g) plain Greek yogurt
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) milk

Blend the oats with the milk for 20 seconds, then add everything else. Full recipe and tips.

4. Peanut butter banana smoothie

  • 1 medium banana, sliced and frozen
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • ¾ cup (about 170 g) plain Greek yogurt
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) milk
  • A pinch of ground cinnamon

Creamy like a milkshake. Nut-free? Use sunflower seed butter. Full recipe and tips.

5. Tropical mango pineapple smoothie

  • 1 cup (about 140 g) frozen mango chunks
  • ½ cup (about 80 g) frozen pineapple chunks
  • ½ cup (about 115 g) plain Greek yogurt or coconut yogurt
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) coconut water
  • 1–2 teaspoons lime juice

Coconut water keeps it light; use milk if you want it creamier. Full recipe and tips.

6. Classic strawberry banana smoothie

  • 1 cup (about 150 g) frozen strawberries
  • 1 medium banana, fresh or frozen
  • ½ cup (about 120 g) plain yogurt or Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup (120 ml) milk

Frozen strawberries make it thick without ice. Full recipe and tips.

7. Blueberry oat smoothie

  • 1 cup (about 140 g) frozen blueberries
  • ¼ cup (about 20 g) rolled oats
  • ½ cup (about 115 g) plain Greek yogurt
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Like blueberry oatmeal you can drink. It thickens as it stands; add milk if needed. Full recipe and tips.

Which ones are the most filling?

The smoothies with Greek yogurt plus oats or nut butter (chocolate oat, peanut butter banana and blueberry oat) are the most filling. The fruit-only ones are lighter; add ¼ cup Greek yogurt or a tablespoon of nut butter to any of them. For more protein, see our 5 high-protein breakfast smoothies.
